After graduating from MCP-Hahnemann University School of Medicine, in Philadelphia, Dr. Patel matriculated to a combined internship/psychiatry residency program at Georgetown University Hospital. Upon completing her specialty training, She was appointed to the faculty of the Georgetown Department of Psychiatry where she clinically supervised, taught and mentored psychiatry and neurology residents and medical students.

Moreover, Dr. Patel served as the Associate Director of the Georgetown Mood and Anxiety Disorders Program, which enabled her to hone her clinical expertise in managing particularly treatment-resistant psychiatric conditions.

Currently, Dr. Patel cares for patients in her private psychiatry practice. She additionally serves as Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at George Washington University School of Medicine where she holds regular clinical case conferences and is actively involved in teaching the psychiatry residents and medical students.

Dr. Patel is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association where she has been appointed to serve on the Council on Communications. Dr. Patel has also been elected to serve on the board of the Washington Psychiatric Society.
